KUWAIT: In a decisive move to ensure the safety lane remains clear for emergency vehicles, the head of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, announced stringent penalties for those misusing this lane. Offenders face vehicle impounding for two months and up to 15 days in prison, along with a fine of 25 dinars if the case is brought to court.

During an appearance on the “This Morning” program yesterday, Bu Hassan urged drivers not to drive or park in the safety lane, emphasizing that it is strictly reserved for emergency vehicles. He confirmed that surveillance cameras are actively monitoring violators to ensure appropriate penalties are enforced.

Bu Hassan highlighted that traffic patrols deployed nationwide will issue tickets and seize vehicles found on the road shoulder. He also advised drivers whose vehicles experience sudden breakdowns or emergency stops to promptly move their vehicles away from the safety lane. This action is crucial for the safety of all road users and to avoid the specified violations. Regarding the increase in juvenile traffic violations, Bu Hassan confirmed that the Operations Department at the General Traffic Department is intensifying its efforts to address this issue.
